The scam’s easy, really. Convince the mark that there was treasure
out there at the bottom of a lake, or anywhere that would take time, effort and
most importantly money to go get. After intense negotiation you offer a big
slice of the profits if they fund the trip. Then you take the money and leave. Easy.
The work was in selling the idea, and also making sure that
the mark wouldn’t be able to go ‘Relax, I have a boat and diving equipment already!
