While I’m sure there’s plenty of ways to be a baseball
scout, there’s only two ways that pay.
The hard but safe way is for the stat nerds, the guys with
laptops and smartphones who pour over every possible number and who can say, with
a straight face, that some guys are 0.003% better than other guys.
But the easy and risky way? Just watch guys play. Pretty
soon you get the eye for talent, or you find another line of work.
Me? My nickname says I’m the king of the second.
I do my stat work at home though.
