As far as fake smiles went, it was fairly convincing. Just the right amount of teeth to express 'genuine' enthusiasm, the lips pursed in a natural enough way.
But after seeing it a few times, and then seeing her when her partner made a surprise appearance at her work, I could tell the smile she had for her job and the one she had for genuine happiness.
The partner ran off, and I made my move with a dozen roses.
My heart sank when I saw her smile.
Then I found out she genuinely loved her job, not the ex...
