Counter Counting

I was short on funds, but the old man behind the counter said to just pay him back when I was able, thankfully.

The next day, a woman appeared on my doorstep. She claimed she was his granddaughter, and I could see the resemblance, once she said so. She asked if I had the money yet. I apologized, and she left in a huff.

She came back every day for a week, and every day I apologized.

Then, on Monday, I gave her what I owed.

Tuesday, when she turned up again, was when I realised this wasn’t about money.
