The war across the stars had been going on for multiple
cycles of the universe, both sides adamant that the other’s actions were
unforgivable, while their own were necessary, up to and including resetting the
universe.
One side had one of their reset devices on a command ship,
which was attacked in a little known corner of a little known galaxy. It
destroyed the attackers, but then broke apart, and the reset device happened to
fall on the third planet of the system.
Properly resetting the universe requires more calculations
than atoms in the universe.
The locals just winged it.
