Self Contempt



Whenever he had to look through his early work, he felt nothing but contempt.

How he thought he was so daring, how he was sure that the stuffy conventions were holding him back, that his new brushstrokes and composition would revolutionise art.

With the benefit of experience and actual talent, he saw nothing but mistakes, and dumb ideas, and just plain crappy work.

And while he knew sucking was part of the journey to being good, he still hated looking at his first dozen years of work.

Not that he ever said any of this to anyone. Might hurt sales…
